Turnkey Restoration of a Heritage Building, Including Foundation and Carpentry
Photos of project
Description
Complete demolition of the existing brick, followed by the installation of a Tyvek air barrier and a 3M membrane.
During demolition, we discovered that a significant portion of the wooden structure — approximately 15 ft x 12 ft — was missing. In addition, the existing rubble-stone foundation was extremely friable and therefore inadequate to support the reconstruction of the new brick wall.
We proceeded by installing temporary supports, removing the deteriorated sections of rubble stone, and pouring new reinforced concrete sections to ensure a solid base. Several rotted hemlock beams were replaced with LVL engineered wood to restore optimal structural integrity.
The missing section of the structure was rebuilt using dry spruce lumber, in compliance with the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC).
We then installed the new door and windows.
